Ethnographic Institute exh. on 4 April 2017

, Exhibition

Opening of the small exhibition presenting the Ethnographic Institute / Historical Museum / Moravian Museum on Tuesday, 4 April 2017.

In the framework of celebrations of the Bicentenary of the Moravian Museum, the Ethnographic Institute is presented in its turn as one of the museum´s scientific departments in the Karel Valoch Hall.

The Ethnographic Institute, originally called Department of Folk Culture, later of Ethnography, keeps in its collections items of ethnographic character acquired as soon as in the beginnings of this institution, i.e. in the early 19th century – among others let us mention the famous “Imperial plough” used by Emperor Joseph II during his inspection journey in the village of Slavíkovice in 1769.

The presentation of the Ethnographic Institute has two levels: the vertical one emphasizes the following up with the work of the predecessors, often museologists and ethnographers of repute, the horizontal one shows the continuous field research and the co-operation both with  professionals and the general public.

The Ethnographic Institute presents itself as an open and dynamic institution with the work motto to preserve the heritage of the past and pass it on to the next generations.
