  • Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Moravian Museum
    In July 2017 the Moravian Museum will celebrate 200 years of its existence. It is certainly an anniversary that will be commemorated not only in the Czech Republic but also in the cultural world of the whole of Central Europe. On this occasion the museum prepares many events and activities that will draw attention to the role, tradition and history of the Czech museum world.

    Museums have always played a crucial role in shaping the modern civil society, they stood at the cradle of the majority of scientific disciplines and continue to play an irreplaceable role even today. It is therefore important to remind the current society of the function of museums and of the values they preserve. The bicentenary is a good occasion for doing so. The museum is an important platform for the preservation of evidences of the natural and cultural heritage and one of the centres of extracurricular education and rising public awareness. Since two centuries it has been stimulating the inception and development of the most of scientific disciplines and thanks to that it has been holding an extraordinary source base consisting of millions of authentic items documenting the past, the culture and the wildlife of this country.
