The Moravian Museum has the pleasure to invite you to the opening of a small exhibition on the Department of History of Music / Art-historical Museum / Moravian Museum. The department presents itself on the occasion of the Bicentenary of the Moravian Museum. The opening is scheduled for Tuesday, 8 August 2017 at 5 p.m. in the Dietrichstein Palace, Zelný trh, Brno.

The Department of History of Music is the oldest music archive in the Czech Republic and in the same time one of the most important music archives in Europe. The exhibition shows old illuminated hymnals, rare manuscript scores and musical instruments from castle and church collections. Facsimiles of unique manuscripts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Antonín Dvořák will also be on display. The presentation of the original, up till now unknown letters of Franz Liszt witnessing his relation to Brno, and the score by Johannes Brahms will be an exceptional event. Visitors will have the possibility to see a selection of personal effects from the estate of the composer Leoš Janáček  and interesting documents on the life of two Brno composers, Pavel Haas and Vítězslava Kaprálová.
